Integrate keelearning with Shopify

What does the Shopify integration offer?

Do you want to sell keelearning courses directly through your own Shopify store? In this article, we explain how the Shopify integration with keelearning works and how you can automate the process. The basic principle is based on Voucher codes: A customer buys a product in your Shopify store and automatically receives a code that can be redeemed in the keelearning app to gain access to the corresponding course.

You are responsible for distributing the voucher codes via Shopify and can configure them according to your needs. For this guide, we use the Shopify app SendOwl, as it specializes in sending digital codes and licenses. Alternatively, other apps with similar functionality can also be used.

Here's some information for you:

✔ Individual workflows and other ready-made interfaces can be added later. Please contact us if you are interested. We are happy to review your individual requirements.

✔ Please set up everything else in Shopify, such as creating courses, storing codes, and customizing the payment process and shipping email.  

✔ Text adjustments for buttons and course descriptions are possible in keelearning. Please share the wording with our support team.

What do I need to set up in keelearning if I want to use the ready-made interface?

In keelearning, you create the vouchers that need to be stored in Shopify. You can find more about vouchers in this Helpdesk.

Additionally, under Settings - Login & Registration, activate self-registration. In the simplest case, deactivate the "Voucher" option.

Please remember: with self-registration without a voucher, anyone can register and will see all content tagged "All Users".

This way, your customers can register themselves in keelearning. You can find more about registration methods in this Helpdesk.

For the sale to work, the course and the voucher codes must be linked via the same TAG.

1. In the administration area, go to Courses and select the course you want to sell.
2. Navigate to the course settings and scroll to the Access section.
3. Under "Access Management", select the TAG Assignment option.
4. Enter a specific TAG here (e.g., Shopify_Course_A). Only users with this TAG can view and edit the course. In the next step, voucher codes can be used to assign the TAG to users.
5. Activate the option Activate course preview. This will display the course to all users in the course list, even if they don't have access yet.
6. Important: Activate the setting Custom URL for access requests.

7. In the field below, enter the Link to your Shopify product. If a user in the app clicks on the locked course and then taps "Request Access" , they will be automatically redirected to your Shopify store to purchase the course

How do I create and export voucher codes in keelearning?

1. Navigate to User > Voucher.
2. Click on "Add Voucher" to create a new voucher group (e.g., "Sale Course A via Shopify").
3. Important: Under "Tags to be assigned," select the exact TAG you previously assigned to the course (e.g., Shopify_Course_A).
4. Define the number of codes needed and generate them.
5. Click on your newly created vouchers and use the "Download Codes" function to download the codes as a CSV file.

How can I sell voucher codes via Shopify?

We can provide you with some recommendations at this point; for specific questions, please contact the Shopify Support Team or check their Helpdesk.

Please note regarding the email dispatch of individual vouchers: This must be manually entered into Shopify. Shopify differentiates between one voucher code for all users or one voucher code per user.

We recommend thoroughly testing the process before providing the links to your customers and launching the process.

In the next step, we will prepare Shopify and SendOwl to automatically send these codes to your customers upon purchase. However, you are free to integrate the codes into Shopify in a different way.

Install SendOwl App in Shopify

Before you can link products, you must set up the SendOwl app in your Shopify store.

1. Log in to your Shopify account .
2. Search the Shopify App Store for "SendOwl" and click Install.
3. Review the access permissions and confirm the installation again by clicking the Installbutton.
4. You will now be redirected to the SendOwl login page. Create a new account there or log in to an existing one.
5. To check the successful connection, go to the gear icon (Settings) and, under External app integration , select Shopify settings. Your store should be confirmed as "linked" there.

Set up SendOwl Product

Please note that you should have already created a corresponding product in your Shopify store.

1. Open your SendOwl dashboard, go to Products and click on Add New.
2. Select the option License codes.
3. Enter the name of your course and set the price.
4. Digital File: Upload a PDF file (e.g., brief instructions on how to redeem the code in your app). SendOwl requires a file to be delivered along with the code.
5. Code Configuration:

   ◦ In the "Configuring your license codes" section, select the option Codes from list.

   ◦ Copy the voucher codes from your keelearning CSV file and paste them here (one code per line).

   ◦ SendOwl will automatically notify you when codes are running low so you can add new ones.

1. Click on Save & Continue.
2. Now link the SendOwl license product to your Shopify product.

Done!

When a customer purchases the course, the following happens:

1. The customer completes the purchase in your Shopify store.
2. SendOwl automatically sends an email with the Voucher-Code and the PDF instructions to the customer.
3. The customer enters the code into their keelearning app.
4. Upon redemption, the customer automatically receives the assigned TAG (e.g., Shopify_Course_A) and the corresponding course is immediately unlocked for them.
