[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In many companies, end customers are the focus of interest. But the sales department must not be ignored either. Sales training and further education for this professional group, which acts as an important intermediary to the customer base, maintains relationships, and initiates them, is essential. Table of contents:
Corona has made it clear that sales and sales departments were able to work relatively normally despite restricted contact opportunities. At the same time, however, the demands of the job increased, which had never been so dependent on technology and at the same time so demanding. Who is surprised that the need for training and further education has risen steadily since then?
Further education opportunities for sales departments, dealers, and distributors are therefore of great importance. And not just regarding software topics. There is also great development potential in the areas of sales, franchising, value-based selling, product knowledge, customer relationship management, after-sales, or for the promotion and establishment of new products on the market.
Companies are generally already in possession of valuable knowledge. However, they are often unable to make it visible. Perhaps it was documented and forgotten. Or employees do not share the knowledge, intentionally or unintentionally. Companies can tap into these sources to let all sales staff participate in them. Know-how transfer is a decisive factor in the long term for the competitiveness of companies.
However, knowledge transfer does not only work in one direction. Low learning motivation or questionable content can destroy any well-intentioned measure. Therefore, companies should first find out which content is really needed. With the help of interviews or questionnaires, it can be quickly identified in which areas training is necessary, even at an individual level. Also, the business goals of all sales partners do not automatically have to match. Only when everyone agrees on the course content and learning goals can training be planned that integrates every participant.
The problem with sales: it is rarely in one place. The phone is constantly ringing. A new customer? A new order? And in general, you don't earn money through your fixed salary, but through commission. And you don't get that by spending your time in seminars. Or do you? How do you push the willingness to learn? How do you motivate people to learn together? Difficult, especially if you primarily use outdated PowerPoint slides that are intended to convey the learning material according to old customs.
Modern companies instead train their sales staff with learning offers that provide further education regardless of time and location. So-called Learning Management Systems (LMS) or digital learning platforms can be used very well for communication and professional exchange. This also works in conjunction with training that takes place on-site (blended learning). A sales LMS that works even more effectively also uses other e-learning formats such as webinars, web-based training, individual coaching, or learning videos.
Especially involving and motivating for sales training are gamification and microlearning formats, which promote teamwork and let employees interact in a playful way. Sales employees simply use their own smartphones for this. Sales training by app is the motto. Without any pressure, whenever and wherever there is time for it. The learning content is packaged in an attractive quiz format. This supports communication and friendly competition in the team. These micro-learning units are entertaining, interesting, and easy to integrate into the often stressful everyday sales life. Employees and companies benefit equally from sustainable learning success, which is also due to the repetition of the learning content as well as the interactivity of the game.
An in-house online sales academy is cheaper than conventional types of training because costs for on-site training, time-consuming conferences, travel, and accommodation can be saved. A savvy e-learning provider will also offer flexible package solutions that address individual budgets and wishes. Furthermore, the (initial) effort for administrators of an LMS must be low-threshold. The user interface should be intuitive and operable with just a few clicks. This saves time and money, which can benefit the content of the sales training. Attractive design and individual CI corporate branding promote employee commitment. Companies should also keep an eye on support and hosting. Because no support or an inexpensive offer from abroad often harbors nasty surprises. A learning platform that is hosted in Germany, on the other hand, complies with the requirements of the strict German data protection law. Only in this way can one be safe from expensive warnings. Conclusion: E-learning in sales plays a decisive role in company further education and sales development. No one who focuses on increasing efficiency and minimizing costs can avoid it.
