The nursing sector is currently in a state of flux. The coronavirus pandemic has shown politicians and society what was no secret before: there are too few nurses, and the pay is not adequate. Thanks to the crisis, this is clearer than ever, bringing the nursing sector a great deal of attention. This is good, because more staff means better healthcare for everyone. However, it takes time for new staff to be trained and integrated. Onboarding can take a lot of precious time, especially for career changers. We will show you the advantages of e-learning for training nursing staff.

1. Use learning time in nursing effectively with e-learning

One challenge with further education in nursing is the issue of time. On the one hand, nursing staff have little time; on the other hand, the time that is available is often not used. Let's imagine a nurse on the night shift. It is quiet and she has little to do. Now she could continue her education and get up to date. With a learning app, these idle times during a shift can be used ideally. The nurse has this on her smartphone and can conveniently check what new learning content is available during her break/idle times. She can watch learning videos, read documents, or learn with virtual flashcards. Of course, she can interrupt the learning unit at any time. The system saves her learning progress.

2. All nursing staff on one level of knowledge despite shift work

Where there is a night shift, there is also a day shift. This inevitably means that there are nurses who almost never see each other. Bringing them together is a major difficulty in further education in nursing. How to keep everyone at the same level of knowledge? With e-learning, everyone can learn when and where they want. Since the learning app is centrally supplied with learning content, everyone has access to the same learning materials. Via a news function, everyone receives important information at the same time. The advantage: the entire nursing staff is always at the same level of knowledge.

3. Bringing nursing staff into contact and promoting social exchange

The fact that the day and night shifts rarely see each other is also a shame interpersonally. The fact that employees are and remain in social contact is good for the team structure and a sense of community and promotes the exchange of knowledge among employees. A learning app therefore enables nursing staff to learn socially. This means that they can invite each other to quizzes, comment on learning content, and chat with each other.

4. Integrate career changers in nursing quickly

When integrating new nursing staff, things have to move quickly. Because they are urgently needed. The so-called onboarding should therefore function all the more smoothly and begin early. A learning app can also support this. With learning paths, you can create introductory courses. These courses can consist of all kinds of media, such as videos, web-based training, or simply texts. At the end, the new nursing staff can complete a test.

5. Identify weak points and train in a targeted manner

A major advantage of a learning app is that those responsible can view the learning progress of the nursing staff. This makes it possible to determine which learning content causes difficulties and targeted training can be provided.
