The topic of data protection has been a top priority for many companies, at the very latest since the GDPR. There is great concern about violations and the accompanying threat of fines, which can sometimes be significant. With this concern, the need for training has also increased. Data protection expert Matthias Rosa answers important questions in our video.
The topic of data protection is important so that companies can achieve compliance and thus prevent possible fines or claims for damages from affected individuals. However, it is also important for being able to implement data protection as a corporate goal in the company in general.

Companies are legally obliged to sensitize employees to the topic of data protection. It is not legally prescribed how to do this, but training is, of course, the simplest way to sensitize employees to the topic of data protection.
The General Data Protection Regulation contains the so-called accountability principle, which means that companies must be able to prove at any time that they are GDPR-compliant, and thus it is, of course, also necessary to provide proof of the training.
For the requirement of data protection training, or rather, sensitization, it is not relevant how large the company is. This can be a company with two employees, but it can also be a few hundred. It is simply only relevant if there are employees, to inform and sensitize them regarding data protection issues.
It is, of course, the case that training for employees also means that they gain more competence or perhaps feel less uncertain about questions regarding data protection. That is why it is of course good for the employees, and they also get information themselves about what happens to their personal data. This means that what happens to customer data also affects the employees, and they also have information about their own rights and obligations.
Data protection violations always occur wherever personal data is processed. In practice, the most frequent problem is that a data breach can happen. This can, for example, be a phishing email that one accidentally clicked on, thereby catching a virus, and then the system is compromised. But it can also be data subject requests. This means that one might answer a data subject request too late or perhaps not completely enough and does not pass the whole thing on. These are the main points that one must point out most frequently in data protection training.
Uncertainties regarding data protection violations generally concern the problem of whether it constitutes a data protection violation at all or not, and training helps enough to sensitize people so that one knows right from the start, "Okay, this topic can be categorized in the area of data protection."
What I particularly like about the online course from keeunit is that one can implement the basic sensitization of employees flexibly. This means I am not tied to what the schedules of my individual employees look like and do not have to coordinate it somehow, but I can simply specify a time frame. At the same time, I can also provide proof that the participants have to perform certain questions and answers, and what I liked particularly well are the playful elements.
