Do you want to introduce e-learning in your company? Then plan this process strategically and sustainably so that you can exploit the full potential of digital learning. Here, we guide you through the four steps you should go through.

Step 1: The needs analysis

Anyone who wants to introduce e-learning in their company should first determine the needs. It can quickly become frustrating if the introduced formats miss the expectations and wishes of the employees – even though they are the ones who are supposed to work and learn with them. If e-learning is to be introduced in the company, this process should therefore be designed to be needs-oriented and iterative.
What is a needs analysis? Here you can find a general explanation!

The following aspects should be taken into account:

  • Analysis of the current state

First, analyze how further education and corporate learning are currently lived and structured in your organization. What status does learning currently have in your corporate culture, and what value should it actually have? In this phase, you should also clearly name how this initial situation has contributed to your desire to introduce e-learning in your company.

  • What role should e-learning play in the future?

Determine to what extent e-learning fits into your organizational culture or aligns with the organization's strategic goals. Or: What needs to change in terms of processes or structures so that e-learning can fully realize its advantages? Now also determine which topics/offerings you would like to provide via e-learning – and in which formats.

What are your company's strategic goals and how are they harmonized with the educational goals? What goals do you want to achieve with the introduction of e-learning? What benefits do you want to create for your employees? Which learning topics should be offered via e-learning measures? In short: How do you want to learn in your company in the future?

  • How is e-learning structurally integrated and who are the target groups?

Now it's about meaningful integration into existing structures.

  • Which stakeholders, such as the IT department, the HR department, or specialist departments, should be involved in the content design of the e-learning offering?
  • What are the target groups and how is the e-learning offering structured so that it is user-friendly and efficiently usable for the respective persons?

  • What does the roadmap look like?

In the final step of the needs analysis, you must calculate the costs and time required and derive from this the timeframe in which you want to implement the project. Also, consider which personnel, technical, organizational, and legal conditions you must take into account. At the same time, you should also plan an internal campaign with which you introduce e-learning in your company. At the start, all employees should be informed via various channels that there is now e-learning in your company, how they can use it, and above all: why they should use it.

Step 2: Find an e-learning provider

With the needs analysis, you have everything at hand to define requirements for a suitable e-learning portal. With these, you select an e-learning provider that meets your requirements or is flexible enough to work with you on solutions.

Step 3: Start the pilot phase

The pilot phase should be a clearly defined period in which the e-learning offering is tested. For this purpose, choose test persons who try out individual elements or complete a journey through the entire e-learning platform. Evaluate the experiences and criticism in an interview and use them to optimize the offering.

Step 4: Introduce e-learning in the company – and promote it

In the last step, the e-learning offering is introduced throughout the entire organization. In this phase, it is especially important that you communicate the e-learning internally in a comprehensive manner and show that this learning platform now has its firm place in the organizational culture. With introductory courses, online quizzes in which departments compete against each other, and other formats, you can show how diversely the platform can be used and thus establish it in everyday working life.
